They say “if it excites you and scares you at the same time, it probably means you should do it!” I have been extremely busy since my tenure as Cellarmaster of Still Wines at Graham Beck Wines came to an end, forging a unique new identity and establishing my latest labour of love – ERIKA OBERMEYER WINES. This has been an extraordinary exercise in courage, tenacity, creativity and patience – but worth every single moment and all the blood, sweat and tears.
Drawing on my extensive training and rewarding career as a winemaker and marketer (with invaluable experience locally and abroad at some of the world’s top cellars), I took a leap of faith and started my own label of Ultra-Premium wines in 2016. The diversity of the South African winelands is the cornerstone on which I build my winemaking philosophy, producing wines true to their origin. By sourcing and selecting special vineyard sites across the Western Cape winelands, and pairing them with the most suitable varieties, I have created wines that embody the best of these distinctive regions.
