Hand-picked grapes in small 18 kg boxes, one night in the cool store (3°C) and than destemmed. Six days cold soak in our red fermenter, followed by spontaneous wild yeast fermentation. We reduced the volume to have more colour and extraction before fermentation started (bigger bunches than previous year). After fermentation, the grape-skins were slowly pressed in a stainless steel basket press (JLB 5). Nature malolactic fermentation in selected barrels. Barrel ageing without one racking, for 11 months – no fining and no filtering. Maturation prior to release 11 months on his nature fine lees (33% new wood). Bottling the 14th of December 2015.

The wine shows a healthy dark-ruby/purple colour and the bouquet offers at first, a lot of red/black raspberry, violet and strawberry flavours. This Pinotage possesses remarkable evolutions in the smell, while stirring the glass. Red fruit, black olives, nicely integrated spicy flavours can be experienced, as the wine sits in the glass. Like previous vintage, it is an elegant style of Pinotage and again a more fruit driven (Stellenbosch) one: full throttle as well as supple, smooth. In addition: it’s a medium bodied wine with a nice dense, pure and wonderful acidity. A nice satin-texture finishes this wine and can be drunken over the next 8 years.
