Vinbeskrivelse

Plat’bos 2019 (Vi har den også i årgang 2020)

Introducing the second vintage of the Plat’bos Chenin blanc, planted right next to the Skaliekop vineyard in decomposed granite. Planted in 1981 on the Paardebosch farm, this vineyard contributes to both our main Chenin blanc as well as Aristargos and it will continue to do so. We have been farming this vineyard since winter 2013 and it has been a pillar in our granite approach towards our white wines. Harvested in the second part of January, being one of the earliest Chenin blanc vineyards we work with, planted on a northern slope. Plat’bos is our fourth wine qualifying for the Old Vine Project (OVP) seal.

Tim Atkin MW: “David & Nadia Sadie are now part of an elite group of South African Chenin Blanc producers, making world-class wines on a consistent basis. This is my favourite of their trio of single vineyard wines in 2019, sourced from a 3.9-hectare site on granite soils on the Paardeberg. Tight, taut and floral, with comparatively low alcohol, mouth-watering freshness, precision and acidity, notes of fennel, apple and gunflint and a lingering finish. A Cape Grand Cru. 12.5% alc. 2021-2032.” 98 points

Decanter: “David and Nadia Sadie studied together before getting married in 2009, quickly becoming leading lights in Swartland. Plat’bos, part of their single-vineyard range, is from a 1981-planted site. This vintage shows lime, white peach, dried herbs and talcum powder on the nose, while the palate has extraordinary concentration matched by exhilarating acidity.. Drink now-2029.” 97 points

Jancis Robinson MW:The second vintage of the Plat’bos Chenin Blanc, planted next to the Skaliekop vineyard on decomposed granite. Planted in 1981 on the Sadies’ Paardebosch farm, this vineyard contributes to both their principal varietal Chenin Blanc as well as the Aristargos blend and the plan is for it to continue to do so. They have been farming this vineyard since winter 2013 and view it as ‘a pillar in our granite approach towards our white wines’. Harvested in the second half of January, being one of the earliest Chenin Blanc vineyards they work with, planted on a warm northern slope. Yield was just 1.4 tonnes per ha. Plat’bos qualifies for the Old Vine Project (OVP) seal. Total production 2,000 bottles. The nose demonstrates the honey spectrum of Chenin Blanc, enlivened by the high tones so often associated with granite. This may not have that much alcohol but it has masses of extract and light chewiness. Very serious wine. Really burrows into the upper cavities of the palate. Really gets the appetite going; would make a sophisticated aperitif. Excellent acidity. This wine will surely have a long life. Drink now-2030.“ 17+ points

“From a vineyard on Paardebosch planted in 1987 on granite. An exquisite nose with notes of flowers, dried herbs before lime, lemon and white peach. The palate, meanwhile, is crystalline – wonderfully pure and focused with great energy and length. Hits the target with pinpoint accuracy. Alcohol: 12.5%” 98/100 Winemag.co.za

Little bush vines planted in 1981 next to the Skaliekop vineyard but on 100% granitic soils. Nose shows a lovely balance between minerality, pithy spicy yellow orchard fruits, crushed granite and dry fynbos and thatch herbal spice. Cool, clean, crystalline, powerful and linear, this cuvée shows the classic tension of Chenin Blanc grown on granite soils, an entrancing saline crisp acidity and a sleek, polished marble textural harmony and finesse. Really quite impressive now but this is most certainly a wine for medium to long term cellaring. One for the collectors!?t.  Wine Safari Score: 96+/100 Greg Sherwood MW
